10 Questions to Camilla Lennarth
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Camilla Lennarth and I’m 29-years-old in June. I grew up in Stockholm and I still live here today. I travel in and out of this city to all my tournaments. Stockholm is my home base, where I’ve got my coaches, family and friends.
Where do you prefer to play?
My favourite golf course to play at in Sweden is my home club, Fågelbro GCC. It’s a country club with a great atmosphere and a fun golf course. Outside of Sweden, my favourite golf course is definitely Valderrama in Sotogrande, Spain. The course has got so much history – it’s a true test for any golfer.
What’s your best score to date, and what’s the strongest part of your game?
My lowest round is 65 (-7) on a 72 par course. I can’t remember my highest, because I probably shot that when I was very young and had just started playing golf. The strongest part of my game is the long game. I prefer the drivers and the irons. I hit straight, and it is almost always in play.
What do you hope to improve?
As a golfer, you’re always working on perfecting all parts of the game, but I’m working a little bit extra on the putting, to improve and gain new strokes.
What’s your handicap?
I can’t remember the last time I checked my handicap, as it doesn’t matter in the type of tournaments I play in. But, I think it is around +3 or 4.
What are your goals for now and the future?
My main goal for this year is to qualify for the American professional tour LPGA. I’d love to play over in the States again. I also want to represent Europe in the Solheim Cup, and play in the Olympics. What’s the best thing about a career in golf? There are so many advantages with golf. You get to meet so many great people, wherever in the world you are, and make new friends. You get to spend hours outside in the fresh air, and exercise at the same time. With golf, everyone can play alongside each other, no matter what your handicap.
What do you do when you’re not playing?
When I have some time off from golf, I really like to catch up with my friends and family. I can be gone for months at a time, so I won’t get to see them, but with technology it’s easy to talk on the phone and keep up-to-date about what goes on at home.
How do you like Morocco?
I have been to Morocco a couple of times playing tournament golf and it’s been a great experience. The standard of golf courses has always been very good, along with nice clubhouses, which makes me want to stay a bit longer after the round is over. For the last couple of years, I have played the Lalla Meryem Cup, which is a Ladies European Tour event. It’s always fun to come back, because it’s a well-organised tournament and there’s great weather in April. This year I finished 19th place in a tie. I wasn’t happy about my last round because I lost a few spots on the leaderboard, but overall that week was fantastic. I stayed at a beautiful hotel by the beach – L’Amphrite Palace Resort and Spa – so my week felt a bit like a vacation.
Did you enjoy the photo shoot for Le Prestige?
I’m not very used to being a model, since I play golf all the time! But, I was very happy that I got the chance to be part of the Le Prestige photo shoot in Rabat a few days before the tournament started. I had the opportunity to wear some beautiful haute couture dresses. Most of all, I’m very thankful that Le Prestige magazine chose a female athlete for the shoot.
